By Michael Roarke: I founded Roarke Custom Builders in 1986. Early on, an attitude of customer service began winning work that I did not have the skills to complete and this led to recruiting our first ace carpenter.  A few years later, we had more work than we could handle so we had to hire another great carpenter.  I never had a chance to catch up and become a skilled carpenter, so I became their helper and continued building RCB. This process just kept repeating itself every two years or so and now we have an outstanding staff very heavy in experience; able to tackle the most demanding remodeling projects.  Likewise, the same practices that helped build our staff, have helped build our trade partner and vendor teams.  Some relationships are approaching 20 years! In 2004, RCB joined the Capital Region Builders and Remodelers Association.  CRBRA has been an invaluable resource for our latest round of growth.  Thru its affiliation with the National Association of Home Builders, I was designated a Certified Graduate Remodeler in 2005. There are about 850 active CGR’s nationwide.  Our client base has grown large enough that we hired a full time Client Service Manager and a full time estimator in 2006. We added a Small Project Specialist in 2008 and we have not stopped hiring right though the housing slowdown. All of this is happening without a lot of fanfare, with very little advertising; just quiet steady growth. As part of the continuing education requirement to maintain CGR status I obtained a Certified Green Professional certification.  In 2008 I became vice president of the CRBRA and in 2009 I will serve as President.  I am currently working on the Graduate Master Remodeler designation and will be eligible for consideration in 2013. As our client list continues to grow, we are committed to expand and grow with it; to provide all the service required to those who have believed in us, hired us and trusted us with their projects and their homes.  Our area of service spans the Capital Region to as far away as southern Vermont and Lake George. We have worked diligently to provide each client with personalized service; service that is worth recommending to others.   This remains at the center of all we do today.
